To the Boat Basin and Back

Training can start to feel obligatory it seems. I wasn’t excited about another early Saturday long run alone. Good thing I had Pieter to motivate me to meet up with the Prospect Park Track Club for the 8am run.

Many of us planned to run the same distance and it was nice to have a group to be with and talk to. It’s 2.5 miles for me to meet the group at Grand Army Plaza, so I was warmed up by 8 o’clock. We then headed for the Brooklyn Bridge and over to the Westside, heading north as far as we want to go. Our trek went to the Boat Basin around 72nd Street. Water is abundant, so we periodically stopped for drinks and gels but for the most part moved at a nice clip. The miles in the teens picked up the pace and the end progressed even faster.

I was setting out to do an 18 miler that end at Marathon Pace. Instead it was 24 miles with a pretty fast mile 20 and 21. The day was beautiful for a long run and the run showed it.
